A different way to view the death of a friend.
DATE: 03/22/2007 14:37:53 / MOOD: sad

On Saturday, I received a phone call from my boss to tell me that a friend of ours had passed away after battling lung cancer for a number of years. We all loved Gord and when he called he always tried to sound upbeat...and as times got tougher and it got harder to say "Hi how are you?" he'd come up with some smart remark like "well as least I'm not pregnant!"

After talking with me for awhile, my boss said one of the deepest things I have ever heard him say....and it really made me think.....

"If our dog is in pain and is suffering, we take him to the vet and have him put down....but when a loved one is terminally ill, we don't want to let him go."

Really make you think, huh?

My Little Emotional Breakdown at Vestry
DATE: 03/21/2007 14:37:47 / MOOD: full of life

Those of you who know me, will remember my little breakdown during vestry, when I was trying to tell everyone of the importance of the youth minister position at church.

I know some of you teared up with me, and there were a few in the crowd wiping their eyes too...

But I believe it had a positive effect on the "powers that be" at church...I was pleasantly surprised when Tyler was asking Georgina where the cross was, and she asked if he would like to carry one down the aisle during the family service.

I guess some people at our church have realized that without our children, they would only have a building with some pews and not a church. I think that some people have come to see the fact that we are not the next generation of the church, but our children are....and with out us and them St. John's would be a very pretty but empty building.

Hopefully....we won't have to go through this again next year...and if we do...I'll be the first to stand up and fight for what is best for the church....the children and their families and most of all the youth minister, because without her we would be missing out on so much.
