Dirty Dancing
DATE: 02/11/2008 09:52:58 / MOOD: anxious

My sisters and mom and I planned to go see Dirty Dancing in Toronto long before we decided to open this studio so I was pretty stressed to be away this weekend with all the work I had to do BUT let me just tell you - it was AMAZING!!!!  If you have are given the opportunity to go see this theatre production - DO NOT MISS IT!  If you're a fan of the movie - you will not be disappointed; I'm so glad we went!  Because of the cold and ice, our train was delayed more than three hours; we froze for an hour at a standstill with no power, we had to get off the train in London because we were told the train was out of service and we'd be loaded into buses to be taken home, and then later asked to re-board the train.  We didn't get home until 3 this morning; I'm sitting at work exhausted, and I still have 0 regrets about having gone to see it!Well, I better go try and catch up on tons of work but I just had to tell you how great it was to see a classic brought to live.  Remember:  I carried the watermelon...

GrinVilla's First Day!
DATE: 01/14/2008 19:15:28 / MOOD: excited

Hey everyone - it's been a long time since I wrote a blog but I thought today was the perfect day to try and get back into the groove of staying in touch with all of you.Christmas was so crazy - between all the family photos we had taken and the Southpoint Minor Hockey Photo Packages, we slept very little and worked really hard to get everything done; somewhere in there we had the brilliant idea to open up a studio and today we opened our doors for the first time!  (ok, not the first time; I have actually opened and closed several times in the last two weeks, trying to rid my basement of a pile of snowglobes, photo frames and ornaments!)We haven't advertised yet because we still have  a lot of stuff to get framed and hung up; I've ordered cool props for taking photos (which should be in soon) but all in all things are very good and I'm very excited about this next phase of journey! It's scary to take on an actual store front - we have already invested so much into GrinVilla before ever having this studio too, and now we've just added a HUGE financial committment to the mix.  I may not have any cash left but what I do have is FAITH, awesome customers, and a whole pile of great ideas just waiting to be put into motion.  Please be patient with the fact that my website is behind (my Open House ads are still up) and the memory books from the reunion haven't found their way to your hands yet!  I realize that our little GrinVilla network has been very quiet lately but I know it will get hopping again one day soon (lots of fun ideas for this site too)  If anyone figures out a safe and moral way to practice the art of cloning, let me know because I need 4 of me right now!If you live near Kingsville, or happen to visit here soon, please stop in to see me at 43 Main St W. I'll be there everyday until 5:00 and I would love to see you!I'll write more this week again to keep you posted on how we're doing.  Our real Grand Opening will be sometime in February when everything is 100% ready to go!Have a great night and keep us in your good thoughts!Karen

Still Alive
DATE: 09/12/2007 08:56:24 / MOOD: excited

Hey everyone:  Long time, no BLOG!  I know it's normal for people our age to be too busy for "chatting" online all day but I just wanted you to know that I'm still alive and have been checking in every day just to see whose on here...Life for me has been interesting to say the least; by the end of the year I will officially be working full time for GrinVilla and I'm really excited about that (little nervous too) I love the kids that I work with and I've built relationships that I know will last a lifetime so I'm trying to not be sad about the fact that it won't have my "job" anymore.  I will still be doing stuff with the kids and teens a lot and the only difference now will be NOT having to put up with politics. I am going to be very intentional about working toward building a home for orphaned children in South Africa; I had two ministers from there stay at our house a couple of years ago and I know that was all part of the bigger plan for us to work together one day in the future.  I really want this GrinVilla house to be a safe, nurturing, loving place that gives kids a chance for an education, and fun too... of course we will make sure they have computers and digital cameras too so that they connect with all of us.It's hard to believe summer is over - it goes way too fast when we're older and I don't think it's going to slow down anytime soon.  I really hope that more of you will be back on here during the winter months.  I really love talking with you when we have the chance; just seeing photos and reading your blogs means a lot.Oh ya, I haven't officially sent out word yet, but you can now use your activity points toward anything in our GrinVilla store which is great!Well I better get back to work since I will soon be a woman without an official pay cheque very soon!

Reunion - Part Two - Seacliffe Park & L.D.S.S.
DATE: 07/23/2007 22:04:50 / MOOD: other

I didn't want to upload another 100 pictures so here's some slide shows from yesterday at Seacliffe Park & the school.  Thanks to everyone who came out for the day after very little sleep - it was so great to see all your kids!  I hope we try to do this on an annual basis (even long after your kids think it's lame and have social lives of their own!)

I'm sleeping
DATE: 07/22/2007 21:53:14 / MOOD: other

Hey everyone - now that the reunion is officially over, I'm just letting you know that I will be in hybernation for a day or so.  I will be making changes to the LDSS main page soon, uploading all kinds of pictures from the reunion, and Seacliff Park, as well as ideas for an annual summer party for those who can attend, but NONE of this will happen in the next couple of days because there is no GV fairy and I am going to try really hard to do NOTHING - that's right - NOTHING for at least a day!  Email me any pics from the weekend that you want to see added to the site and I will gladly do that soon!

It was an amazing weekend and I'm so happy that many of you got to see each other in "real life" instead of on a computer screen!  It was definitely worth all the work & Lisa and I both know how much our efforts were appreciated so you can stop saying thank-you!  YOU ARE WELCOME!

Now shhh....

Montreal - Fatherhood is Rough
DATE: 07/19/2007 00:52:29 / MOOD: excited

Hey everyone:  We spent the last couple days in Montreal helping Julie get ready for her opening at the gallery tomorrow night; poor Marty - here's proof that he really is a great dad!   Just a few pictures of him riding in the back of Stefano's jeep, buried under some painting so he could keep them from flying out the back!

Our first full day in Montreal
DATE: 07/15/2007 19:46:41 / MOOD: good

Hi everyone - we had a really busy day and it was great!  Julie's fiance Stefano took us for a drive to a couple different parts of Montreal; we got to see all of Montreal from two different look out points and then we went downtown which was crazy buzy with tons of people!  We bought tickets for the Body World Show (if you've heard about this, you'll know why I'm having some anxiety about going - not sure how I'll feel about this - it's tomorrow at 10:30am)

We then went to Schwartz's which Abe even told me to go to while I was in Montreal - apparently EVERYONE knows about it and people line up for their smoked meat sandwiches - it's packed all day and night; yes it was a very good sandwich!

Julie & Stefano brought us the art gallery that Julie's first official show will be opening at on Thursday evening; we tried to get a handle on everything that has to be done to prepare for that night and it's all very exciting.

Julie's also had her dad doing all kinds of handy-man projects around their condo...isn't that what dads are for?

I'll try to write more tomorrow - just thought you'd want to see a few pictures from our first day!  See you all soon - 6 more days!!!
